We didn\u2019t know Deluxe Diner existed and just happened to stumble inside to see what it was all about. When we saw waffles on the menu, we knew we\u2019d come to the right place. However, it was nearly 9pm, and our waitress (Kim) soon let us know that waffles weren\u2019t available after 4. She's very mature for a 2-year-old, but our daughter was slowly consumed with devastation. We assured her that it was perfectly okay, but Kim saw the existential meltdown our daughter was internalising, and she acted quickly. Not only did she serve up a strawberry milkshake on the double, she also consulted the kitchen on breaking tradition and making our little one a waffle.\n\nI've traveled the world over and never experienced anything so kind. A massive thanks to both Kim and the cook who agreed to whip out the waffle iron. Their actions alone are worth a great rating, but the food and atmosphere were honestly fantastic too. My partner had a Cheese Burger with a veggie patty, and I had the Crispy Southern Chicken Burger with a veggie patty. Both were massive and equally excellent. The curly fries, Dr. Pepper, and milkshake were all great and reminded us so much of home. Before our holiday is over, we will no doubt return to have waffles (during the appropriate hours), and each time we come to Taranaki, we will make a point to stop in. Food took forever and we were not told how long the wait would be. We were given cold popcorn for waiting. Upon exit I asked the lady at the cashier if its always this busy and she replied that this was a quiet night?? If it takes an hour to get food on a quiet night then me and my friends won't be returning. Our waiter was OK but we had to rush our food so we could make it to a movie in time and we couldn't enjoy the meal and in the end it really ruined the end of a good day.
